Bailly Project
I’m working on a large scale project about the Dutch seventeen century painter David Bailly. Working as an artist in the city of Leiden, 1584-1657
He is a remarkable painter. One of his most misterious and comples works is a Vanitas with Selfportrait.
One of the questions about the painting is ‘witch of the faces is the face of the painter at the time he painted it’. Is it ‘the painter on the left?’. Or is it the man in the small portrait the painter holds?
